Alleluia! a Gospel Diary $32.55 Read inside a complete set of reflections on the daily Gospel from the three year cycle of the Roman Catholic Church. On July 7, 1998, after a noon Mass, Janis began writing personal reflections on the Gospel of the day. These reflections are based on The New American Bible, the translation on which the Mass Lectionary is based, with additional references to other translations. Early each morning, coffee in hand, she read through the Mass readings for the day, with Francis, her marmalade Gospel-cat, by her side. Then she wrote a short reflection on the Gospel. Janis drew upon her educational background and life experiences to provide insights which you will find illuminating and relevant to your daily life. Three years of personal reflections and commentary were collected in notebooks, and then compiled into this book. |

Church of England Liturgy: Book of Common Prayer, Alternative Service Book, 1928 Prayer Book $10.09 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Archbishop of CanterburyRowan WilliamsPrimates’ MeetingLambeth ConferencesAnglican Consultative CouncilBishops, Dioceses, andEpiscopal polity The Book of Common Prayer is the common title of a number of prayer books of the Church of England and of other Anglican churches, used throughout the Anglican Communion. The first book, published in 1549 (Church of England 1957), in the reign of Edward VI, was a product of the English Reformation following the break with Rome. Prayer books, unlike books of prayers, contain the words of structured (or liturgical) services of worship. The work of 1549 was the first prayer book to contain the forms of service for daily and Sunday worship in English and to do so within a single volume; it included morning prayer, evening prayer, the Litany, and Holy Communion. The book included the other occasional services in full: the orders for baptism, confirmation, marriage, ‘prayers to be said with the sick’ and a funeral service. It set out in full the Epistle and Gospel readings for the Sunday Communion Service. Set Old Testament and New Testament readings for daily prayer were specified in tabular format as were the set Psalms; and canticles, mostly biblical, that were provided to be sung between the readings (Careless 2003, p. 26). The 1549 book was rapidly succeeded by a reformed revision in 1552 under the same editorial hand, that of Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury. It never came into use because, on the death of Edward VI, his half-sister Mary I restored Roman Catholic worship. On her death, a compromise version, largely 1552 with a few amendments from 1549, was published in 1559. Following the tumultuous events leading to and including the English Civil War, another major revision was published in 1662… More: |

Fortress Of The Heart $5.95 In the journey from innocence to awareness, the wounds we experience can drive us inward in a fearful effort to protect ourselves from further damage. But the walls that prevent the risk of pain in relationships also keep love from getting in, rendering us numb, isolated, and alone.Kathleen Ann Marchant offers an honest account of her struggle to trust God and others after a teen peer attacked her, ending a carefree childhood. She unfolds her furious response, silent suffering, and desperate prayers to overcome bitterness and live life at the highest level of divinely appointed happiness. In fifty readings, poems, and prayers, you will find yourself moving with Marchant from the shadows of the past towards an exhilarating release and learn to dismantle your own walls of defense, transforming your focus from self to others. Our Daily Bread $1.99 Word and Sacrament. This is the food that sustains us here on our pilgrimage to heaven. The Word of God and the Sacrament of the altar – this is our daily bread. What greater gift could we ask for than to hear the Word of God proclaimed and receive our Lord each day at holy Mass? This is the foundation of our faith; here is the paragon of prayer which strengthens us for our work in this world. In this writing the author has sought to allow the Scripture readings for each Mass (and all Masses of the liturgical calendar are covered: all Sundays and weekdays of Ordinary Time, Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter seasons, as well as Solemnities and Feasts) speak for themselves. This is evident in his extensive quoting and paraphrasing of the Word, but perhaps more significantly in his taking as his guiding principle the Lord’s instruction not to consider beforehand what to say when brought to bear witness to Him (see Mk.13:11).After reading the Scriptures for the day three times (before dawn), Mr. Kurt let the Spirit direct him – writing without revision, trusting entirely in the Lord. Thus “describing spiritual realities in spiritual terms” (1Cor.2:13), the message and tone of the writing reflect that of the readings themselves; the work is therefore termed an exposition of the readings of Catholic Mass. This book has received an imprimatur from the Most Reverend John J. Meyers, J.C.D., D.D., Archbishop of Newark, New Jersey.Author’s Website:www.writingsofjameskurt.org |

Saints and Seasons: Reflections for the Liturgical Year $1.99 A major part of the annual worship experiences in the Catholic Church revolves around the commemoration of the saints. This book gives a brief history of these outstanding personalities who have been enrolled in the church’s “hall of fame.” They cover the period from the first to the twentieth century. Some are household names as St. Peter, the first pope, St. Patrick of Ireland, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Therese, the Little Flower, of France and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton of Baltimore, Maryland. Some others are lesser known to us but equally known to the Lord, to whom they dedicated their lives, love and daily service. Their way of life can be both a guide and inspiration to us on our pilgrim journey through this world. Just as there are four seasons in our calendar year, so there are four seasons in the church year. These are Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. This book gives a short commentary on the weekday scripture readings for these four liturgical seasons. Many people have found these spiritual thoughts enlightening and very helpful in living the particular seasons in union with the liturgy of the church. |

The daily reading in my inbox?
Does anyone know a site that will send you a daily reading / sermon / Write your e-mail? I prefer Lutheran, Catholic, but the readings are too high. Do not be too demanding but I would perhaps as pastor to give a brief interpretation of the passage. If someone knows where I can find something like that, please let me knowledge. I tried google search, but it's not really find what I'm looking. Thank you for your help and a great weekend!
Http: / / Lutherandevotionalcorner.info / http://www.upperroom.org/daily/ do not know if any of these will send you an email, but you can bookmark and visit every day if you wish. I found a Yahoo search for "Online Lutheran piety." There is a long list, so perhaps there are others that you would like more information on this research.
