Coping with the loss in housing
The loss of a loved one is never easy, but it is particularly difficult when the loss occurred around holidays. It was one year or 20 years, is likely to feel the loss more acute during the holiday season.
Well everyone suffers Otherwise, it is important that you be gentle with yourself and find the best way to manage their emotions in the intense period of the year. What can you do if you punch egg ho-ho-ho are simply not on their radar this holiday season?
- Acknowledge their feelings. His sentiments are simple. Can not hide it, in fact, is not healthy to try. Regardless of where and when it happens to you, acknowledge your feelings. Giving voice to them. Let the memories flood your mind. Be thankful for them, even angry or sad feelings. But do not stop. There is a difference between let the feelings and memories that come to you and make a concerted effort to conjure. Grief has no time limit, there is no good or bad to file a grievance. However, deliberately clinging to the past and refusing to allow healing to occur, you can not live in the This – and the risk of losing the special blessings in this present moment.
- Weep if you must cry. Some people a real lock up about crying in public, and tears make some people uncomfortable. But if you cry, not to stifle dynamic. You may not want to start a community water supply of a review year-end – but if the tears come unexpectedly, even before others take a moment to acknowledge these feelings. Then, take a few deep breaths and calm down. If you need to be excused from the room to do so. Everyone has experienced loss at one time or another, so do not worry that people judge you.
- Seek help. Sometimes best we can do is talk to someone about our pain. Caution, however, do not be surprised or upset if those who have forgotten or appear insensitive about your loss. Occupations of the season, obviously took their own lives. But his close friends will be there for you. If you do not trust confident, you can consider a minister, counselor or representative from your Employee Assistance Program.
- Say a prayer, blessing or a good thought for your beloved. Perhaps the feelings and memories come because your family needs your help in the transition … even years after his departure. That they want to remember something, or offer a warning. Bless their physical presence on the path to your side and blesses Now mind your presence. Thank them for the gift they have been in his life.
- Light a candle. People who grew up Catholic 're probably familiar with it. It's a great way to recognize Light of the Universe, and remember your family is and always will be logged light.
- Leave an empty chair at the dinner table. Honor your loved one, leaving a literal on the table for their minds to join you and your family during the festive meal (s). You may want to do this, the first year, as people and traditions are filling the void in seasons to come. He knows, however, that no one ever take your beloved there.
- Offer a gift or a donation in his name. You can not be in the commercial spirit of the season. Do not feel bad or apologize. Confirm your needs and honor them. Perhaps instead of buying gifts to the traditional way, this year you can donate to a charity or organization that has been special to your beloved.
- Write a letter to your beloved. Grief has many faces. Sadness. Joy in the memory. The anger that we are separated from our loved ones. An excellent tool for healing is to write your beloved a letter to send to all the emotions going through this season. If they fail, tell them that. If you are angry gone, admit it. If there are things left unsaid, they say. Once completed, you can write the letter during a ceremony, buried, or save it until you no longer have to maintain it.
- Do not be afraid to talk to your beloved. Demi Moore was not the only person who talked to ghosts. Many of us feel better if we just talk about our thoughts aloud to our beloved dead. And make no mistake – we can hear. They may intervene again in the traditional sense, but if you ask your guides and angels, you can see signs of their responses.
- Start a new tradition. Maybe decorate the tree has always been your favorite moment of the year, with the beloved. If it is too painful, do not get a tree this year. Hang a special crown in place. If you still colored lights are used, indicating at that time. If favorite drink grandfather was apple cider, switch to cocoa. Play different music. Visit a church different, or attend the service the morning instead of evening service this year. Invite someone new during the holidays. There are infinite ways to create new memories, even when you acknowledge that you love and honor the memory of the former.
- Create an album. Think of your family holiday traditions favorite songs, foods, etc. Create an album in his honor. Look through photo albums and letters. Photos of sketches, or create a collage of magazine photos. Let your mind giving you build a memory book that honors and provides a way to channel their grief.
