Jesuit on the Roof of the World: Ippolito Desideri’s Mission to Tibet $29.95 Jesuit on the Roof of the World is the first full-length study in any language of Ippolito Desideri (1684-1733), a Jesuit explorer and missionary who traveled in Tibet from 1715 to 1721. Based on close readings of a wide range of primary sources in Tibetan, Italian, and Latin, Jesuit on the Roof of the World follows Desideri’s journey across the great Western deserts of Tibet, his entry into the court of the Mongol chieftain Lhazang Khan, and his flight across Eastern Tibet during the wars that shook Tibet during the early-eighteenth century. While telling of these harrowing events, Desideri relates the dramatic encounter between his Jesuit philosophy and the scholasticism of the Geluk monks; the personal conflict between his own Roman Catholic beliefs and his appreciation of Tibet religion and culture; and the travails of a variety of colorful characters whose political intrigues led to the invasion of Zünghar Mongols of 1717 and the establishment of the Chinese protectorate in 1720. As the Tibetans fought among themselves, the missionary waged his own war against demons, sorcerers, and rival scholastic philosophers. Towering over all in the mind of the missionary was the "fabulous idol" Avalokitesvara and its embodiment in the Sixth Dalai Lama Tsangyang Gyatso. In describing his spiritual warfare against the Tibetan "pope," the missionary offers a unique glimpse into theological problem of the salvation of non-Christians in early modern theology; the curious-and highly controversial-appeal of Hermetic philosophy in the Asian missions; the political underbelly of the Chinese Rites Controversy; and the persistent European fascination with the land of snows. |

The Pearl of Great Price: The Spiritual Journey of a New Age Seeker to the Light of Christ and the Eastern Orthodox Church $9.95 Life is truly a remarkable experience and gift. Travel with me through my journey to find The Pearl of Great Price, that treasure of spirituality, which I sold all to obtain. The first part of my book, My Labyrinth, begins with the description of my family’ search for a better life in America, and the rich spiritual and cultural heritage I inherited from my descendants. My journey continues, taking me away from that heritage, God and the Catholic Church into the seeming serenity and release from suffering offered by Eastern religions and the New Age. Eventually I begin to realize that majority of my seeking was in reaction to or avoidance of something, especially the Catholic Church, even Christianity in general, which is true for many seekers in our modern times. Unbeknownst to me, I was truly not choosing my path in life. Instead, my unconscious beliefs and my reactions to life, religion and God directed the choices of my soul and ultimately smothered my spirit. In Part Two of my book, The Battle for my Soul, I explain how I finally learned to trust others; eventually I could choose to be with God and the Church, responding to the love I found there, rather than my fears. The third part of my book, My Conversion, gives readers an in depth window into the process of conversion and the teachings of ancient Christianity while validating aspects of my former seeking. How profoundly God finds ways into our hearts through all the challenging events that befall us! I hope that my story will encourage you in your spiritual searching. As St. Matthew tells us, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” “If you don’t believe in the reality of spiritual warfare, if you are convinced that miracles belong to a bygone era, or if you have always assumed that all paths to the Orthodox Church are basically the same, then you must read The Pearl of Great Price. The book is likewise a precious gem-a moving memoir |

A Great Awakening: 21st Century Charter of churches in the U.S.
The editor of Sojourners magazine, the Evangelical Church Jim Wallis has published a new book, The Great Awakening, written with the hope of awakening American Christians to be institutionalized part of the rebirth and renewal to heal, repair and transform "the scandal of biblical poverty in the world and here at home, the crisis of the degradation environmental and climate change, which pose a threat to the realization of God, and multiple attacks on human life and dignity that our shame world. "[Page 12 February 2008, Sojourners]
Reactivation Research Jim, but the non-institutional Christian of the Beatitudes, calls a revolution that begins with common sense and go back, and again the voice of wisdom that founded this nation.
"Shortly after I published the pamphlet "Common Sense" [February 14, 1776] United States, given the greater likelihood of a revolution in the system of government would be followed by a revolution in the system of religion … The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion. Paine, Tom
Wallis proposes seven principles and rules of engagement for political participation in the Christian world:
1. God hates injustice.
2. The kingdom of God is a new order.
3. The church is an alternative community
4. The Kingdom God transforms the world to treat specific aspects injustice.
5. The Church is aware of the situation, arguing that the responsibility to uphold justice and control of violence.
6. Adopt a global perspective.
7. Find the common good.
The seven points are very good and I wish you good luck and ask Jim actually wake Christians Sleeping Western institutions have failed in their commission. Too many churches in the United States have become places to socialize and have fun and be typed on the back for doing the minimum that is necessary if one claims to be Christian, and churches have become firms maintain the status quo rather than on the social gospel.
The Gospel, which means good news that Jesus preached, was very political and a political challenge go to the powerful and arrogant, smug, teachers self-righteousness of the law.
Two thousand years earlier had not Cross religious symbolic meaning, not a gem. When Jesus said, "Take up your cross and follow me", so everyone knew it was issuing a policy statement in the main streets of Jerusalem were lined with crucified agitators, rebels, dissidents and others who disturbed the status quo forces of the Roman occupiers.
In the last days of Nero's reign [54-68 AS] by domination Christian Domitian [] 81-96 were persecuted to follow the non-violence, love and forgiveness of Jesus. That Jesus was the first left behind when Augustine wrote the Theory of Just War.
Before Emperor Constantine brought Christianity into the current, all first Fathers of the Church teaches that Christians should not serve in the army, but willingly suffer rather than inflict harm on someone else. San Augustine was the first Church Father to consider the notion of just war and 100 years after Constantine Empire required that all soldiers must be baptized and, therefore, the decline of Christianity began in earnest.
With the justification of war and violence supplied by the Augustine's just war theory, has become bad law. Not much has changed in two millennia, the political fashion of today Orwellian application of peace is war and that nuclear weapons provide protection. U.S. claims of money "In God We Trust", but the truth is the faith of the United States is out of control in a military-industrial complex that seeks domination, power and control of any person who defies and challenge the status quo of America. Eisenhower warned America of forcing our economy to the industrial-military complex as most Prophets, has been ignored.
In 313 AD, Emperor Constantine legitimized Christianity and thus, those who had been considered rebels and bandits have begun to enjoy political power and prestige. another name of Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and the union of church and state, his true teachings were reinterpreted. The justification for the war and the use of state violence corrupted what Christ taught and modeled. Jesus has always been close to WAKE UP! The Divine dwells in you, and all others. Christ taught that to follow him requires that we must love our enemies, we must forgive those who hate, curse and insult them, without even thinking of revenge.
Christ lived a life that has shown the evil can be opposed without being taken into account and that the cycle of a tooth "to tooth, eye for eye "will never bring peace and justice. Before Emperor Constantine brought Christianity into the current, all the early Fathers the Church teaches and not all Christians served in the army but instead willingly suffered to inflict harm to anyone.
The term Christianity was not coined until three decades after Jesus Christ walked on earth. Until the day of Paul's disciples Christ were called members of the Way, the way they taught it!
Christ was never a Christian, but it was social justice radical revolutionary Palestinian devout road warrior who rose Jews [intifada in Arabic] to challenge job security authorities Temple by teaching people not to pay the priests for ritual baths or sacrificing livestock to OK with God, because God loved them as they were: sinners, poor, sick, outcasts, widows, orphans, refugees and prisoners all living under occupation Roman army.
What was Jesus crucified was disturbing the status quo of the Roman army occupying his time by teaching the subversive concept that Caesar had the power because God allows it and that God preferred the humble sinner, the poor, the sick, the outcasts, widows, orphans, refugees and prisoners all living under Roman occupation above the elite and arrogant!
Clemente Tertillian, Polycarp and every other early Church Father taught that violence is a contradiction of what Christ was. There have always been Christians who voted against this corruption of scripture and have been ignored, reviled, rejected, mocked, persecuted and maligned through time. There are always Christians who were never abandoned the true teachings, such as Quakers, Mennonites, Catholics and Protestants have been faithful witnesses to Christ by denouncing violence and caring for the poor. They have always been Jews, Muslims, atheists, anarchists, lay people, rebels and revolutionaries have lived the life that embodies the message of Christ, have actually done what he actually said that was more revolutionary.
Christ you know it is not easy
You know how it can be difficult
The way things are going
I will crucifying John Lennon
Christians can crucify institutionalized say that many of those who attend American churches of the 21st century of Christ crucified again and slandered because the worship of an institution and the pages of the Bible. All institutions are caused by man and the Bible was not FAX the sky, was drafted after centuries of oral history passed. Where the stories are told, change, and we all know if you ever played the game telephone children. Scribes were imperfect human who made many mistakes since copied texts, and many also added his own point of view and some have even opted to give it.
The most decisive in history of Christendom occurred when Emperor Constantine accepted the Christian faith, for which they had been persecuted by the now protected by an earthly king. Both monarchical and patriarchal church were formed at the same time. Power struggles and debates were common among early Christians. Individual churches determined which texts were read, and all had their favorites. Constantine tried to unite his empire and unite the church has been a good political decision. He said he would pay fifty copies of scripture lit to be bound, and thus the biblical canon was established and sealed. There was an intense debate among the bishops on what should be included and excluded.
The proto-orthodox, who had become the dominant voice, which was determined heretical for everyone. The proto-orthodox demanded loved the writing to be burned, usually because they do not conform to their understanding of God. Today know more about what Christianity had been the same after the discovery of the Nag Hammadi library. [See the first part of this series is for more]
I can get crucified for this, but I maintain it is not a sect within the Body of Christ in the United States that honors the institution and the pages of the Bible, and is a cult of the dead. The fact that the barrel was sealed, does not mean that God stopped talking to his creation and we can all hear / her /? the voice of our own conscience, and the voice of open vessels, such as poets, musicians, critics, dissenters and rebels history.
The fact that I left the church, I am always connected to the Mystical Body of Christ and the most rigid fundamentalists are my brothers and sisters. St. Paul never ceased to express their freedom of speech, warned the disciples of Christ, not to judge non-believers, but to provoke the believers in good works. My hope and prayer is to repair, heal and repair the inert body of Christ in the West by reconnect with its roots in the land where Jesus walked and taught, which is for peace as children of God, not hunger, bombs, torture or occupy others.
The Christian exodus from Holy Land, which is in pieces, Bantustans, made its workforce by 20% of the total to less than 1.3% since 1948, and not because of Islam but because of a brutal occupation, inhuman military denies them human rights and disregards international law aided and abetted by the U.S. government and its citizens hard earned tax dollars.
While the Christian world is a single cell in the cosmic body of Christ. "So we are in Christ, one body being many, and each member belongs to all others." -Romans 12:04
"Its members have equal concern for each other. If a part of [the] body suffers, all suffer. "-1 Corinthians 12:25-26
Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and all the prophets, said: "You will recognize the believers in their mercy to each other, and their love for each other, and kindness to others, like the body, when a member of the body hurts hurts. "
John Lennon wrote the marriage Ballad Of John & Yoko some weeks after their marriage in 1969 and remained in bed for peace to awaken the world through a media event in the abomination the Vietnam War. Using the global John said: "Yoko and I are very willing to be the clowns of the world, and if we do something good to … And I say that peace … The fight is spirit. We must bury our own monsters and stop condemning people. We're all Christ and Hitler. We want to win Christ. We try to make Christ's message contemporary. What if she had made announcements, music, movies, television and newspapers! Christ miracles to tell his message. Well, today is the miracle of communication, so we will use. "
This battle continues to make Christ and contemporary this ongoing series I will use the World Wide Web.
