Living Presence: Reports of Eucharistic Miracles in America (Roman Catholic)

Recent polls indicate more than seventy percent of American Catholics do not believe in Christ’s real presence in the Holy Eucharist. Despite Roman Catholic Church’s 2000 year-old teaching of this “real presence” doctrine, many modern Catholics including some Catholic priests, discard Christ in Eucharist as a mere symbol. This moving documentary explores the increasing number of Eucharistic miracl…

Stunning imagery is chronologically presented as the practice of the rosary in various faiths are discussed. Bahala Na Ang Dios (Leave it to God)

Bahala Na Ang Dios (Leave it to God)

This book investigates the role that the Roman Catholic church has played in the socialization of Filipinos in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The research is based on scholarly acknowledgement of the important place of social institutions-such as churches, synagogues, mosques, temples and other places for religious and faith-based gatherings-in the settlement and integration experiences of immigrants. Roman Catholicism, first introduced into the Philippines via Spanish colonization, has become an important marker of identity for many Filipinos and has functioned as a means of easing the barriers to Filipinos’ integration into Canada. To better analyze the role the Roman Catholic church has played in Filipino-Canadian immigrant life, this book provides an overview of the history of migration to Canada and discusses the place of the church as seen from the perspective of representatives of diasporic, transnational and second generation communities of Filipinos in Canada. As such, the main data is primary material comprising of interviews with Filipino-Canadians from each of these community groups. This book is an asset to those interested in religion, history, and immigration.

Archbishop Thomas Joseph Toolen was the Bishop of Mobile through some rather turbulent times for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mobile, Alabama. One of the most frequently occurring questions he had to deal with was the question of race. During the early decades of his episcopate, Toolen carried out his mission of saving the souls of Alabama’s African Americans by establishing separate missions, thereby expanding the South’s only truly biracial religion while also respecting societal norms crystallized in the Jim Crow laws of segregation. When the atmosphere was such that it was practical, Toolen acted quietly to integrate all levels of Catholic education which included Spring Hill College in 1954 and the parochial school system in 1964. As the Civil Rights Movement brought turbulence and violence to the State of Alabama, Toolen responded by condemning the activists’ methods, not their goals. This book is great for those who are interested in the Civil Rights Movement in America viewed from a different angle or anyone interested in the American South, the American Catholic Church, or race relations in the United States.

100 Dogs Who Changed Civilization

100 Dogs Who Made a Difference   If you don’t believe that one dog has the power to alter civilization, then you’ve obviously never heard of Peritas (p. 166), the dog who saved Alexander the Great from being trampled by an elephant. Or Biche (p. 57), the Italian Greyhound who started a war between France and Russia. Or Urian (p. 74), the dog who bit Pope Clement VII and finalized England’s break with the Catholic church. Or Peps and Fips (p. 96), the dogs who helped Richard Wagner compose his operas.   These are just five of the 100 Dogs Who Changed Civilization, and this book honors their extraordinary contributions to science, history, art, government, religion, and more. You’ll meet a dog who ran for president of France (p. 79) and a dog who saved a movie studio (p. 115). You’ll meet dogs who have inspired great works of literature (p. 92) and who were awarded medals for their wartime service (p. 158). You’ll even meet a dog who became a real-estate mogul (p. 141). These beautifully illustrated true stories are a tribute to the intelligence, bravery, and loving nature of dogs all over the world.

Chapters: 1558 in England, 1558 in France, United Kingdom Parliamentary Constituencies Established in 1558, Abingdon, Elizabethan Religious Settlement, Castle Rising, Higham Ferrers, Battle of Gravelines, Siege of Calais. Excerpt: The Elizabethan Religious Settlement was Elizabeth I s response to the religious divisions created over the reigns of Henry VIII , Edward VI and Mary I . This response, described as “The Revolution of 1559″, was set out in two Acts of the Parliament of England . The Act of Supremacy of 1559 re-established the Church of England s independence from Rome , with Parliament conferring on Elizabeth the title Supreme Governor of the Church of England , while the Act of Uniformity of 1559 set out the form the English church would now take, including the establishment of the Book of Common Prayer .Elizabeth’s reign When Mary died in 1558, Elizabeth inherited the throne. One of the most important concerns during Elizabeth s early reign was religion . Communion with the Roman Catholic Church had been reinstated under Mary using the instrument of Royal Supremacy, but was again severed by Elizabeth. She relied primarily on her chief advisors, Sir William Cecil , as her Secretary of State , and Sir Nicholas Bacon , as Lord Keeper of the Great Seal , for direction on the matter.Parliament was summoned in 1559 to consider the Reformation Bill and to recreate an independent Church of England. The Reformation Bill defined the Communion as a consubstantial celebration, as opposed to a transubstantial celebration, included abuse of the Pope in the litany , and ordered that ministers should not wear the surplice or other Roman Catholic vestments. It allowed priests to marry, banned images from churches, and confirmed Elizabeth as Supreme Governor of the Church of England .

Nevertheless, the league’s founding, as had the founding of the Protestant Union, further exacerbated long standing tensions between the Protestants reformers and the Roman Catholics which thereafter began ratcheting upwards with ever more frequent episodes of civil disobedience, repression, and retaliations that would eventually ignite into the first phase of the Thirty Years’ War roughly a decade later with the act of rebellion and calculated insult known as the Second Defenestration of Prague on 23 May 1618. Both the Protestant Union and Catholic Leagues were symptomatic of the eras increasingly intolerant behavior towards others’ personal beliefs. In 1555, the Peace of Augsburg was signed, which confirmed the result of the First Diet of Speyer (1526) and ended the violence between the Lutherans and the Catholics in Germany. Excerpt: The Maryland Toleration Act, also known as the Act Concerning Religion, was a law mandating religious tolerance for trinitarian Christians. Passed on September 21, 1649 by the assembly of the Maryland colony, it was the first law requiring religious tolerance in the British North American colonies and created the first legal limitations on hate speech in the world. Historians argue that it helped inspire later legal protections for freedom of religion in the United States. The Calvert family, who founded Maryland partly as a refuge for English Catholics, sought enactment of the law to protect Catholic settlers and those of other religions that did not conform to the dominant Anglicanism of Britain and her colonies. The Act allowed freedom of worship for all trinitarian Christians in Maryland, but sentenced to death anyone who denied the divinity of Jesus. It was revoked in 1654 by William Claiborne, a Virginian who had been appointed as a commissioner by Oliver Cromwell and was a staunch advocate for the Anglican Church. When the Calverts regained control of Maryland, the Act was reinstated, before being repealed permanently in 1692 following the Glorious Revolution. As the first law on religious tolerance in the British North America, it influenced related laws in other colonies and portions of it were echoed in the writing of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which enshrined religious freedom in American law. Cecilius Calvert, proprietor of the Maryland colony when the Maryland Toleration Act was passedThe Maryland colony was founded by Cecilius Calvert in 1634. Like his father George Calvert, who had originated the efforts that led to the colony’s charter, Cecilius Calvert was Catholic at a time when England was dominat… More:

Excerpt: The Tithe War (Irish: ) was a campaign of nonviolent civil disobedience, punctuated by sporadic violent episodes, in Ireland between 1830-36 in reaction to the enforcement of Tithes, a tax payable by subsistence farmers for the upkeep of the Anglican protestant Church of Ireland irrespective of an individual’s religion. Tithe payment was a obligation on those working the land to pay ten per cent of the value of certain types of agricultural produce for the upkeep of the Christian Church. After the Reformation in Ireland, tithe payments were directed to the established state church, the Anglican protestant Church of Ireland. This church was not supported by the majority of the population, seventy five percent of whom remained nominally Roman Catholic. Emancipation for Catholics was a core promise during the campaign for implementation of the Act of Union in 1801 but it was not until 1829 that the Wellington government finally succeeded in passing the Catholic Emancipation Act, despite defiant royal opposition. However, the obligation to pay tithes remained, causing much resentment. Roman Catholic clerical establishments in Ireland had refused government offers of tithe sharing with the established church, fearing U.K. government regulation and control. The tithe burden lay directly on the shoulders of on tenant farmers. More often than not, tithes were paid in the form of produce or livestock. In 1830, given the system of benefices in the Anglican system including the Church of Ireland, almost half the clergy were not resident in their assigned rectories and parishes. These issues, more often than not, were inflamed by the senior Irish Roman Catholic clergy who were now dependent on the voluntary contributions of dues paying adherents since t… More:

1960-LBJ vs. JFK vs. Nixon: The Epic Campaign That Forged Three Presidencies

$11.99

It was the election that would ultimately give America “Camelot” and its tragic aftermath, a momentous contest when three giants who each would have a chance to shape the nation battled to win the presidency.Award-winning author David Pietrusza does here for the 1960 presidential race what he did in his previous book, 1920: the Year of the Six Presidents—which Kirkus Reviews selected as one of their Best Books of 2007. Until now, the most authoritative study of the 1960 election was Theodore White’s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Making of the President, 1960. But White, as a trusted insider, didn’t tell all. Here’s the rest of the story, what White could never have known, nor revealed. Finally, it’s all out—including JFK’s poignant comment on why LBJ’s nomination as vice president would be inconsequential: “I’m 43 years old. I’m not going to die in office.”Combining an engaging narrative with exhaustive research, Pietrusza chronicles the pivotal election of 1960, in which issues of civil rights and religion (Kennedy was only the second major-party Roman Catholic candidate ever) converged. The volatile primary clash between Senate Majority leader LBJ and the young JFK culminated in an improbable fusion ticket. The historic, legendary Kennedy-Nixon debates followed in its wake. The first presidential televised debates, they forever altered American politics when an exhausted Nixon was unkempt and tentative in their first showdown. With 80 million viewers passing judgment, Nixon’s poll numbers dropped as the charismatic Kennedy’s star rose. Nixon learned his lesson—resting before subsequent debates, reluctantly wearing makeup, and challenging JFK with a more aggressive stance—but the damage was done. There’s no one better to convey the drama of that tumultuous year than Pietrusza. He has 1,000 secrets to spill; a

Universal (non-Catholic Roman Catholic) Christianity

Understand? Catholic means universal, not just Catholic. What followers various religious denominations believe that Jesus came to start a name (yours, of course), without mentioning any religion whatsoever? Could it, could you imagine the mind as a thought, that Jesus came to reveal the truth that we are really spiritual beings? What an idea!

For Jesus, the ticket "to heaven" was not a member of a religious form on the outside, but an inner state of love unconditional.

What the world needs now is love, sweet love …….. and a truly universal spiritual movement in which one group is better than another group, just different. It is just different? For some "other" is scary and should be avoided if not destroyed so as not to influence others. Christians and the very sectarian division "than go to heaven" is to say If you're not with us, you go to hell, has seen violence and the results were rather horrible.

Instead of trying to "convert" people to call, or even your own local assembly, why not love people unconditionally? Of course, for it makes fun of all competitive. We go beyond the surface meaning of Jesus that have been hidden in parables, to begin, and deep spiritual truths. The book that parents the church has decided (with the approval of the emperors, of course) would be our canon is not a license to kill anyone who does not take a vote defend confessions taken by men and confessions.

I do not know how long it takes, but I think that ultimately, the consciousness of Christ, without religious exclusivity, is the message of the Father. And, not limited to Christianity see more clearly, as I see it. :-)

Defining God in Jesus, but not limited to Jesus!
