Jesus Freak, like the 1970s phrase that it’s culled from, is an oddity. Who could have ever imagined such a wonderful blend of grunge rock, rap, melodic pop, and funk? “So Help Me God” sets the tone with a wicked guitar riff that draws boundaries for the trio’s magic harmonies. “What If I Stumble?” and the vastly underrated “Between You and Me” allow Michael Tait to showcase his silky smooth vocal…

The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima tells the story–through an admittedly Hollywood prism–of one of the most beloved Catholic legends of the 20th century. Soon the word spread, and throngs, teetering on …

The Education of Catholic Girls (Paperback)

The Education of Catholic Girls (Paperback)

$26.92

A century after its first publication, Mother Janet Erskine Stuart s classic The Education of Catholic Girls is back, and it s as relevant and useful as ever! Practical as it is pious, witty as it is wise, this collection of counsels not only helps educators in school or at home meet Catholic girls special intellectual needs, it offers sage strategies for whole-person formation: showing us how to help our girls grow into virtuous Catholic women.Catholic girls among other girls, writes Mother Stuart, and Catholic women among other women, have the privilege as well as the duty of upholding what is highest. The Education of Catholic Girls will help you teach your girls whether through math and science, needlework, Catholic philosophy, or good manners to uphold what is highest; it will help you train them to live a perfectly honorable and fearless life. This centenary edition of The Education of Catholic Girls features English translations of the original s foreign phrases and quoted sources (Mother Stuart s presumption about her readers knowledge of Latin, French, and German points to something education has lost over the years), as well as a new preface by Catholic homeschooling author and speaker Susie Lloyd.

‘You Will Be Called Repairer of the Breach’: The Diary of J. G. M. Willebrands, 1958-1961

$64

In the spring of 2005, almost by chance, the Diary of Johannes Cardinal Willebrands, which depicts events from the international ecumenical scene on the eve of the Second Vatican Council, was discovered. The Diary consists of three Notebooks that were written during the period 1958-1961. During this time, Willebrands was also appointed the Secretary of the newly established Secretariat for Christian Unity (1960). As Cardinal Augustin Bea’s right-hand man, he played an important role in establishing contacts with the World Council of Churches and with other Christian churches. On the occasion of what would have been Cardinal Willebrands’ one-hundredth birthday (2009), his Diary has been translated into English and published, with almost one thousand critical annotations. The original Dutch text is included in the annex. The study of the diaries, in the context of the international and national ecumenical movement, can provide new insights, especially into the dialogue between the Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches in the period shortly before the Second Vatican Council. Furthermore, it provides fascinating information about the faction forming within the Vatican in preparation of the Council.

The first book of Maccabees is a book written in Hebrew by a Jewish author after the restoration of an independent Jewish kingdom, probably about 100 BC. The original Hebrew is lost and we have the Greek translation of the Septuagint. The book is held as canonical scripture by all Christians Churches (including Catholic, Orthodox and Copt churches) except most Protestants. Protestantism and modern-day Judaism hold it an apocryphal book.

Praise for previous volumes in the Brazos Theological Commentary on the Bible"[In Jonah, Phillip] Cary writes with an energy and clarity rarely found in biblical commentaries of any type. . . . Cary works his way through the text phrase by phrase, with an eye for allusions and intertextual echoes; these often fund his theological reflections. He, appropriately in my opinion, blurs the distinction between interpretation and theology. . . . If . . . you want a sustained theological theme played out over the course of interpreting a text, then this volume will both edify and repay repeated reading."–Stephen Fowl, Catholic Biblical Quarterly"Phillip Cary’s commentary on the book of Jonah combines profound exegesis with original insights that could serve both the biblical scholar and the layperson. . . . Cary does end on a hopeful note in helping us rediscover that Christians and Jews can rejoice in the graces that they have both received from God. It is a hermeneutical conclusion that brings to an end this thought-provoking commentary. . . . A fine contribution to the field of exegesis on the book of Jonah. Phillip Cary does not simply repeat what others have written. He opens the way to some new possibilities in the interpretation of the book of Jonah for Christians today."–Jacek Stefanski, Review of Biblical Literature"One of the great strengths of Ephraim Radner’s Leviticus commentary is his commitment to giving unrelenting attention to the materiality of the text, its reasonings, and the way of life it exhibits–all of which make it possible for Christians better to see how Jesus might be seen as performing the logic and reasoning of the Levitical text itself."–Jacob Goodson, Modern Theology

Excerpt: Nottingham High School – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Dame Agnes Mellers founded Nottingham High School in 1513, after the death of her husband, Richard, partly in his memory, but also as an act of atonement for his several wrongdoings against the people of Nottingham. In order to do this she enlisted the help of Sir Thomas Lovell, who was both the Governor of Nottingham Castle and Secretary to the Treasury. As a result of their combined efforts, King Henry VIII sealed the schools foundation deed on the 22 November of that year. Since 1868, the school has been located high on Waverley Mount to the north of the city centre, looking down towards the site of its foundation in St Mary’s Church and its continuance in Stoney Street. There has subsequently been a long programme of building and development, resulting in the modern site. War Memorial InscriptionIn the Foundation Deed, Mellers provided that a Commemoration Service should be held in St Mary’s Church in the Lace Market “on the Feast of The Translation of St Richard of Chichester, namely 16 June” each year. With the exception of the Goose Fair, it is the most ancient ceremonial event still perpetuated in the City of Nottingham, and the oldest which is still largely in its original form (the Goose Fair is now a funfair rather than a livestock fair), although there seems to be no record of it being held between the middle of the sixteenth century and its modern revival in 1923. The formal procession is an important part of Founder’s Day and seeks to symbolise the ancient links the School has with the Crown, the City and the Church. The Foundation Deed also provides for the distribution (out of a total sum of 20 shillings) of certain moneys to the Lord Mayor, Vicar and others and for the… More:

Excerpt: The Biblia Polyglotta (also called the Biblia Regia ) was printed between 1568 and 1573 by the printer Christoffel Plantijn in his printing house in Antwerp (now Belgium ).Plantin was suspected of Calvinist sympathies, although Antwerp at that time was firmly Catholic . He developed a plan to prove his loyalty to the Catholic king Philip II of Spain by producing a version of the Bible in five languages. The king financed the plan and sent the Spanish theologian Benito Arias Montano to Antwerp to watch over the production of this eight-volume masterpiece of printing, which was printed in 1100 copies. The first four volumes contain the Old Testament . The left page has two columns with the Hebrew original and the Latin translation, the right page has same text in Greek with its own Latin translation. Underneath these columns there is a Aramaic version on the left-hand page and a Latin translation of this on the right-hand side. For printing the Hebrew text Plantin used among others Daniel Bomberg ‘s Hebrew type, which he had received from Bomberg’s nephews. Volume 5 contains the New Testament in Greek and Syriac , each with a Latin translation, and a translation of the Syriac into Hebrew. Volume 6 has the complete Bible in the original Hebrew and Greek, as well as an interlinear version that has the Latin translation printed between the lines. The last two volumes contain dictionaries (Hebrew-Latin, Greek-Latin, Syriac-Aramaic, grammar rules, list of names, etc.) that were of value to scholars.A complete copy of this Bible is on display at the Plantin-Moretus Museum (the site of the original printing press), including the typefaces which were designed for this project.Sources Notes A hyperlinked version of this chapter is at The Modena Triptych is 1568 triptych (three panel

Chapters: Settlements Established in 1582, States and Territories Established in 1582, Gregorian Calendar, Salta, New Kingdom of León, TendÅ?-RyÅ?, Third Council of Lima, Vilnius St. Joseph Seminary, Thorbräu. Excerpt: The Gregorian calendar is the internationally accepted civil calendar . It was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII , after whom the calendar was named, by a decree signed on 24 February 1582, a papal bull known by its opening words Inter gravissimas . The reformed calendar was adopted later that year by a handful of countries, with other countries adopting it over the following centuries. The need for the Gregorian reform stemmed from the fact that the Julian calendar system assumes time between vernal equinoxes is 365.25 days, when in fact it is about 11 minutes less. The accumulated error between these values was about 10 days when the reform was made, resulting in the equinox occurring on March 11 and moving steadily earlier in the calendar. Since the equinox was tied to the celebration of Easter, the reform in the calendar was undertaken by the Roman Catholic Church. The Gregorian calendar reform contained two parts, a reform of the Julian calendar as used up to Pope Gregory’s time, together with a reform of the lunar cycle used by the Church along with the Julian calendar for calculating dates of Easter . The reform was a modification of a proposal made by the Calabrian doctor Aloysius Lilius (or Lilio). Lilius’ proposal included reducing the number of leap years in four centuries from 100 to 97, by making 3 out of 4 centurial years common instead of leap years: this part of the proposal had been suggested before by, among others, Pietro Pitati . Lilio also produced an original and practical scheme for adjusting the epacts of the moon

Excerpt: Ariadne musica is a collection of organ music by Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer , first published in 1702. The main part of the collection is a cycle of 20 preludes and fugues in different keys , so Ariadne musica is considered an important precursor to Johann Sebastian Bach ‘s Well-Tempered Clavier , which has a similar structure. The title refers to the Greek myth in which Theseus is able to find his way out of Minotaur ‘s labyrinth using a ball of thread Ariadne , daughter of King Minos of Crete , gave him. Similarly, the music in the collection can be said to guide the listener through a labyrinth of keys. Fischer also used Greek mythology to name the pieces in another large scale music collection of his, Musikalischer Parnassus .The first edition of Ariadne musica was made in 1702 in Schlackenwerth . The work was reprinted several times during Fischer’s life. The original print mentioned by Johann Gottfried Walther in Musicalisches Lexicon is now lost, but a manuscript copy survives.Pieces 20 preludes and fugues:5 ricercars on chorale melodies, each connected with a specific catholic event:All pieces are quite short, including a few really brief fugues (the 7 bar A minor fugue being the shortest). Most are in common time , with a few exceptions (most notably the E Dorian fugue which is in 12/8). The preludes vary from pieces based on short simplistic toccata -like passages over long sustained chords (as in, for example, the C major and G major ones) to slightly more complex works with brief imitative passages like this one, from the end of the E-flat major prelude:The fugues are all in four voices, except the A-flat major one which is a five voice fugue. Some are loosely connected thematically to the accompanying preludes. The ricercars all feature themes

The origin and development of Isi-Ile-Uku (Issel-Uku)-US

(Isi-Ile-Uku) Issel-Uku town is home Anioma Aniocha-North Delta States Nigeria. What's axis along Asaba-Benin-Agbor. It is one of the three communities Issel Anioma with the other two are Mkpitime and Issel Issel-Azagba. It has Population 376,320 people (2008 estimate)

Isi-Ile-Uku Kingdom later anglicized Issel-Uku by the British for easy pronunciation historically was founded by an outpost a Benin Oba Eweka in about 1230 AD in the Empire of Benin. Oba Eweka to achieve three fundamental objectives of the foundation Issel-Uku mat mass migration of modern descendants Nri South East Region, the Foundation of agricultural land to meet the people of Benin and a field of defensive war to ensure the safety of Benin Empire against external aggression perceived. There is no doubt that Oba Eweka we felt the wave of migration between the IPU and the NRI and people Igala and was clearly eager to stop the flow is in progress. The third reason articulated here to establish Issel-Uku and presents a common tradition between the United Obas. Eko (Lagos) is a typical example of what is meant here. The foundation of Eko (Lagos) when the Oba of Benin Orhogbua in 1550 AD was followed with the Foundation Issel-Uku perhaps for similar reasons.

Shortly after its founding, Oba Uwadiaie Eweka a crown prince, his second son as "Ogie" (King) of the newly created position Isi-Ile-Uku in the same year he established the kingdom. For easy administration and perhaps the safety of her son, Oba Eweka sent a group of warriors, princes, directors, managers, geographers local and slaves to accompany your child. The group of Benin royal family settled area Ehaekpen Issel-Uku.

A note on is that the monarchs prevailed after Isi-Ile-Uku traditionally for centuries has been the "Ogie" traceable as Uwadiaie Prince, Ogie of Isi-Ile-Uku at the time that "Obi" as a title for traditional leaders in the region has become very important. The influence of groups may have led to the import words such as "Idumu" and "Ogbe" in the lexicon of people, even when you set the social community and traditional. After the raid migrants in the eastern region is considered as the reason behind the change in the manner of a traditional community leadership. There is also a system that has supported, Issel-Uku this a true family of the oldest in the nation Anioma.

The relationship between the future and the Oba of Benin Obis continued over the centuries later with the Oba of Benin and the crowning of Obis approve future community until he become reasonably independent Issel-Uku Benin Empire, a situation that simply said the Oba delegated its chefs to represent the appearance cons physically implemented in the past. The Kingdom of Obi Isi-Ile-Uku to receive their symbol of office, such as the paraphernalia of any agreement Oba of Benin to take such functions in the community Oba Issel-Uku general, I would have. In fact, the Obi of Isi-Ile-Uku is traditionally regarded as a true representative of the Oba of Benin in the ISI-Ile-Ile-Uku that Isi-Uku is considered an extension of Benin to the east.

Issel-Uku its corporate existence shall Benin supports the thesis that all Igbo Anioma, by origin and not all Anioma Igbo by origin that the kingdom is traditionally considered the head of Ovbi Ikhime (Ezechima) including descendants Onich-Ado (now Onitsha, Anambra State). An oral summary of people known as Oligbo think, the first son of popularly Ikhime Ovbi known in history as the founder Ezechima United Issel-Uku. People continue to be proud reference to the son and daughters-Oligbo Issel.

Today These days, however, the influence of Benin in the United Issel-Uku became diminished but not completely lost in it like most sectors of the community still bear the names given to Igodomingodo (Benin) and typical Anioma while ensuring steady progress in the spiritual, philosophical and administrative. Some of these names are Isheakpe, Idumu-ISAM-Edemoka Idumu names, etc. that people have as Ogwuluzeme "," Agwachime "Okumabua" Akpodo "Nweje" Ukpele "," EBIT ", and so declare the origin the people of Benin. The type Obi-Uku Issel seems royally in costumes and beads and other regions is similar to that of the Oba of Benin. traditional securities Issel-Uku synonymous with those of Benin have also been preserved. The Iyas of Issel-Uku and Uwolo of Issel-Uku (warlords) are two examples.

Strikingly, in the past, the obi makes some festivals in Issel-Uku in Benin, on an annual basis, one that has been ro Ugie Oba (Part real). It is a community that has preserved its secular parties whose festival "Ine" is held each year by the Indians. The festival has become a Ine platform to educate people about its history and ensure that people hold tenaciously to their culture. The festival has gained much popularity Ine, so that the return of Indians from near and far from witnesses, while offering the opportunity to showcase the music of indigenous peoples and other forms of wealth rich cultural heritage of all people Issel.

Ine festival is a gesture to the sound of gunfire in effect, ending the day 7 "I was the opening of the observation Nzu all roads leading to the palace of the Obi, an early clear that the party Ine. Each traditional ruler of the city should also own firearms, which usually follows with many notes of joy airfreight. The atmosphere is responsible for the appearance of the king's mother and Women of all who come in a single file with the hairstyle is old Benin. The king began to dance real after their traditional leaders are expected King to dance real honor is to be expected, occurs once a year. The "Ina-Aka" ceremony finally took place in the heads entitled compared to Obi enjoy every bit of his honor.

Issel-Uku town today to talk ethnographers Enuani they say is a mixture of all the Igbo and Edo to the IKA. In fact, today mainly Enuani Igbo, but retained its enormous Edoid Ika and culture in words and names can still be heard today.

Like many other cities and communities Anioma, Issel-Uku is factory in a village self-development, virtual absence of government presence in the community. His retirement and the propensity to erosion well known. With the erosion plagues the city, the Indians were engaged in the struggle against natural disasters for any purpose. Interior acrimony and infighting have also combined to wreak havoc in the underdeveloped city, even as a foreign organization on the basis of origin the city made efforts waterproof and contributions to the development of the city.

People like the other cities and communities have never had good relations with the evolution of Anioma state government is even Headquarters Aniocha South Local Government thereby encouraging Indians to call other illustrious son and daughters of the community to come to the rescue of the city. Although great progress has been made by Indians as in almost all facets of activity in the life of the city, but always the trend in the city once in the forefront of developing small cities and surrounding communities at the time Anioma colonial.

This statement was criticized well-meaning son and daughters of Anioma calling it an act of marginalization people who have contributed greatly to the development of Delta State, with little results in terms of infrastructure developments. It was however not be as Emmanuel Uduaghan ewet happened to James Ibori announced guidance to remain in office Issel-Uku, his true home.
