Catholicism on Trial Series – Book 3 of 7 – The Bible Alone vs. The Virgin Mary – LIST PRICE REDUCED from $16.95. You SAVE 60% $6.95 It’s a bold question but it must be asked because many believe it to be true. Is the “Catholic Image of Mary” a true representation of Mary? Or, is she actually a “Pagan Goddess” that was taken captive by the Catholic Church and “reconstructed” in order to oppress women?Feminists, Protestants, and Pagans did not expect to come together to form an alliance against the very person of the Blessed Virgin Mary, but facts will speak for themselves. And given the level of tension in the Catholic Church over feminists’ demands that the Church “ordain women”, this trial will bring out what has been hidden in the feminists agenda for years, namely, a deep association with paganism. In short, this trial will bring center stage for all to see the battle between “The seed of the Woman” and “The seed of Satan” in Technicolor. And colorful it will be. Facts will be demonstrated that will get under the skin of those who do not want their schemes exposed to the light of day. There will be insights into motivation and a Scriptural analysis of the most heated issues surrounding Marian doctrine. Assertions that women were ordained in the early Church will be explored, and Protestant accusations that Catholic rituals and doctrine are rooted in paganism will be flushed out.And there should be no surprise to discover how important it was for feminists to strike first at marriage and the “evil nature of men” before they could attack Churchmen. But, perhaps most shocking is the ultimate reason that feminists attack Marian doctrine! Do they go beyond their demands of sexual license and independence? Does it all come down to a satanic attack on the Divinity of Jesus Christ and the inner life of the Most Holy Trinity? The impact of this trial is far reaching, and it is impossible that it will proceed without great contention. But it will become unmistakably clear that the Dogmas of the “Immaculate Conception” and the “Perpetual Virginity of Mary” are seen |

In sickness and in health: Towards a renewed Roman Catholic theology of marriage in light of the experiences of married women living with HIV/AIDS. $49.99 This dissertation explores the experiences of women who self-describe as Catholic, married, and HIV-positive, in order to better understand what constitutes abundant life for them, and what aspects of their religious formation or religious participation have thwarted their flourishing. The dissertation incorporates an interdisciplinary method, drawing upon relevant insights from public health, qualitative field research, Catholic theology of marriage, feminist social ethics, and Catholic sexual ethics. The methodology of the project attempts to attend to the everyday experiences of women living with HIV/AIDS as a source for moral theology together with the Bible and tradition. The opening chapter of the dissertation introduces the project's methodology, which combines qualitative field research with a Christian feminist methodology. Chapter two describes the experiences of eight women who were interviewed in Chicago, Illinois. As married women living with HIV/AIDS they shared their stories of marriage, of family life, of church involvement, and of living with HIV/AIDS. The dominant themes that emerged—day-to-day survival, barriers to intimacy, challenges to faith, and the need for self-love—are analyzed in the third chapter. Chapters four and five analyze themes of Christian discipleship that formed the interview participants' understandings of themselves in relation to God. These chapters argue that messages of self-renunciation are harmful for Catholic women and that the Church should instead affirm self-love as a critical component of Christian discipleship. The final chapter argues that Christian marriage should explicitly affirm the dignity and equality of women. The author describes implications of the argument for Catholic liturgical practice, marriage preparation programs, sexual education programs, and family ministries. |

Male and Female he Created Them: Essays on Marriage and the Family $14.95 Jorge Cardinal Medina Estévez responds to the attack by modern society on the sanctity and indissolubility of marriage with these beautiful, thought-provoking and clear essays on marriage and the family. A highly regarded author, teacher, prelate and strong defender of Catholic doctrine, Cardinal Medina Estévez presents inspiring insights on the divine plan for male and female, the family as the “domestic Church”, the importance of chastity in all vocations, and the need for society to uphold the traditional understanding of marriage and family life. Cardinal Medina Estévez shows how this most noble institution, and the loftiness of its dignity and beauty, can be understood only in all its depth through the timeless Christian teaching on marriage and family, as seen in the Bible, and in Christ’s love for the Church. |

Providential Accidents $22.5 Geza Vermes is known world-wide as an expert on the Dead Sea Scrolls and for his pioneering work, Jesus the Jew. But in addition to that he is the living embodiment of Jewish-Christian relations in the context of an honest quest for the truth. Few scholars can have had such a colorful and eventful life, the course of which he describes here. Born into a Hungarian Jewish family which later converted to Christianity, he received a Catholic education and was later ordained priest after the turmoil of the War. The quest for membership in a religious order led him to the Sion Fathers, in Louvain and then in Paris, where among other things he was introduced to biblical studies and became fascinated with the newly discovered Dead Sea Scrolls. Subsequent emotional turmoil from conflicting pressures made him ill, but a series of Providential Accidents” which gave this book its title brought him to England, marriage and a new fulfilled life, first in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and then in Oxford, and to a public reassertian of his Jewishness. As well as telling a fascinating personal story, this book also provides a vivid insider’s account of developments in Scrolls research and of the lengthy battle with procrastinating editors over the “academic scandal of the century.” These memoirs shed much light on the deep personal friendships and antagonisms and the complex, non-scholarly factors which accompany even committed study of the Bible, Qumran, and the Gospels. |

The Bondage of The Will $0.99 Martin Luther (10 November 1483 – 18 February 1546) initiated the Protestant Reformation. As a priest and theology professor, he confronted indulgence salesman Johann Tetzel with his The Ninety-Five Theses in 1517. Luther strongly disputed their claim that freedom from God’s punishment of sin could be purchased with money. His refusal to retract all of his writings at the demand of Pope Leo X in 1520 and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms in 1521 resulted in his excommunication by the pope and condemnation as an outlaw by the emperor. Martin Luther taught that salvation is not from good works, but a free gift of God, received only by grace through faith in Jesus as redeemer from sin. His theology challenged the authority of the pope of the Roman Catholic Church by teaching that the Bible is the only source of divinely revealed knowledge and opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptised Christians to be a holy priesthood. Those who identify with Luther’s teachings are called Lutherans. His translation of the Bible into the language of the people (instead of Latin) made it more accessible, causing a tremendous impact on the church and on German culture. It fostered the development of a standard version of the German language, added several principles to the art of translation, and influenced the translation into English of the King James Bible. His hymns inspired the development of singing in churches. His marriage to Katharina von Bora set a model for the practice of clerical marriage, allowing Protestant priests to marry. |

The Mass in My Life: Cries of the Heart in the Prayers of the Mass $13.95 Rosemary Lunardini is a Catholic laywoman and professional writer who has written a memoir of her lifelong experience of the Mass. Growing up in the Midwest in the mid-twentieth century, she graduated in journalism from Ohio State University. She delayed a career after marriage until her children were ready for college, and then began working for publications at Dartmouth College. During these years, she earned a Master in Liberal Studies degree from Dartmouth, while working as associate editor of Dartmouth Medicine magazine. Two of her articles, including one on the housing needs of the elderly, won national awards. During years of study and work, she was devoted to Catholic adult education, particularly bible study, and came to see more clearly the presence of the bible in the prayers of the Mass. In retirement she decided to examine the Mass more closely, from the viewpoint of a lay person in the pews. A saver of things old and good, she found abundant resources for this book in family letters, old missals and bible, and family mementoes. To these, her up-to-date library of Catholic books adds resources that keep her looking forward. While she looks at the Mass objectively through its prayers and actions, she finds the voice of personal experience in prayer and work that make this story her own. She believes that every Catholic has a personal experience of the Mass alongside the communal experience, and that her story is only one. These days she continues to live in Hanover, N.H., with her husband, enjoying the visits of nine grandchildren. |

Christian Marriage Help – Save Your Marriage Today
When your marriage is going through a tough time, taking the proactive approach may be just what you need to save your relationship.
Christian marriage help starts with communication. Don’t think that by ignoring the problem that it will just go away. In fact, denial may only end up making things worse.
Talk to your partner about the current state of your marriage, as well as the problems the two of you are going through. Try to work together to solve these issues plaguing your marriage before your problems end up destroying it.
When talking to your spouse, try not to be offended by what your partner says about you. Instead of lashing out, take it as something for you to improve and work on so you can be a better person and spouse. Likewise, do not be harsh when it is your turn to speak. Be truthful but phrase criticisms constructively.
The beginning of Christian marriage help is working on your flaws and issues together in order to strengthen your relationship and save your marriage. Look at what your relationship lacks and find a way to introduce it into your current relationship. If your marriage previously suffered from a lack of communication, try to be more open this time around.
You must realize that there are two people in your marriage, neither of you perfect. Learning to shift your focus from your needs and wants to that of your partner’s, helps you to better understand your spouse and makes it easier to work together.
Christian marriage retreats are one form of Christian marriage help. They allow you to focus on sorting out the problems in your marriage, instead of trying to balance it with your other everyday responsibilities.
Christian marriage help is also available in the form of Christian marriage counselling. Counsellors can help you talk about the things you need to discuss as a couple, provide an objective third-person viewpoint, give advice and when needed, can act as a peacemaker. Their methods, partnered with teachings from the Bible, are quite effective in putting God back into the center of your relationship.
If you want a less formal form of advice, Christian marriage help can also come from your church. Whether it’s your pastor or other friends in the Christian community, they can guide the two of you in rebuilding your marriage. There is no shame in asking for their help during these times, especially if your marriage can benefit from their advice.
For a couple in a God-centred relationship, prayer is important. During the more trying times, it can be beneficial for the two of you to pray for God’s help in mending your relationship. Don’t forget to include your partner and their well-being in your prayers as well.
Turning to the word of God is another activity that can strengthen not only your faith and your love for God, but also your love for each other. And when all else fails, trust in God and His plans for you and your marriage.
