A pilot formation program to deepen identification and commitment as sharers in the Prophetic, Kingly, and Priestly mission of Christ among lay Catholic theology graduate students. $49.99 This project in ministry develops a formation program for graduate lay students of Catholic theology. An issue in ministry is that lay students of theology who are not in formation for Holy Orders, Consecrated Life, or Lay Ecclesial Ministry, also need spiritual formation beyond academic training. It is not enough to be informed; students need to be formed spiritually, psychologically, and in practical daily applications as they identify with the ministry of Christ. The project’s relevancy is based on the words of Pope John Paul II in Christifidelis Laici, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops giving catechetical priority to adult formation, and the exhortation of Benedict XVI, during his 2008 papal visit to the United States, asking administrators of Catholic higher education institutions to promote the Christian Message as not only “informative but performative.”;The project’s intent is to facilitate the participants’ deepening an awareness of the ministerial roles of Christ as Priest, Prophet, and King. A second objective was to help the lay students clarify the ambiguity of the very word “ministry”, and affirm their own identities as ministers empowered in their roles as priest, prophet, and king through their baptism.;Participants joined small groups and attended four 90-minute monthly formation sessions. They were given opportunities for theological reflection pondering Christ’s profound question, “Who do you say I am?” Through scripture, prayer, liturgical song, communal and personal reflection, they were led to ask themselves “Who does Christ say I am?” and how Mary, Christ’s Mother would answer those questions. They journeyed spiritually, walking in the work of the Trinity, the model of relational ministeial love.;Each participant completed pre and post measures of their understanding of their spiritual perceptions and how they identified with Christ. At the conclusion of the sessions, all of the participants had matured in their understanding |

Church of England Liturgy: Book of Common Prayer, Alternative Service Book, 1928 Prayer Book $10.09 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Archbishop of CanterburyRowan WilliamsPrimates’ MeetingLambeth ConferencesAnglican Consultative CouncilBishops, Dioceses, andEpiscopal polity The Book of Common Prayer is the common title of a number of prayer books of the Church of England and of other Anglican churches, used throughout the Anglican Communion. The first book, published in 1549 (Church of England 1957), in the reign of Edward VI, was a product of the English Reformation following the break with Rome. Prayer books, unlike books of prayers, contain the words of structured (or liturgical) services of worship. The work of 1549 was the first prayer book to contain the forms of service for daily and Sunday worship in English and to do so within a single volume; it included morning prayer, evening prayer, the Litany, and Holy Communion. The book included the other occasional services in full: the orders for baptism, confirmation, marriage, ‘prayers to be said with the sick’ and a funeral service. It set out in full the Epistle and Gospel readings for the Sunday Communion Service. Set Old Testament and New Testament readings for daily prayer were specified in tabular format as were the set Psalms; and canticles, mostly biblical, that were provided to be sung between the readings (Careless 2003, p. 26). The 1549 book was rapidly succeeded by a reformed revision in 1552 under the same editorial hand, that of Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury. It never came into use because, on the death of Edward VI, his half-sister Mary I restored Roman Catholic worship. On her death, a compromise version, largely 1552 with a few amendments from 1549, was published in 1559. Following the tumultuous events leading to and including the English Civil War, another major revision was published in 1662… More: |

Facets of Faith: Living the Dimensions of Christian Spirituality $1.27 Christians believe that no aspect of life is untouched by the dazzling power of Jesus’ resurrection. Like the facets of a fine jewel, the various aspects of Christian spirituality each reveal a glimmer of glory and light. In this timely and highly readable book, popular author W. Paul Jones mines his deep knowledge of scripture, history, and tradition, as well as his experience as a husband and father, a Methodist pastor, and now a hermit in the Roman Catholic church to give us a practical handbook of faith and spirituality.Covering topics as diverse as worship and imagination, failure and forgiveness, work and sex, aging and death, Jones reminds us that our lives and the things to which we aspire and with which we struggle find their true perspective when viewed as facets of our life with and in God, grounded in the inner practice of prayer, and expressed in the daily living of that reality. |

From the Crib to the Cross: The Life of Our Lord in Illustrated Poems $35.48 Brother Dennis Robert, a De La Salle Brother, wrote these poems on the life of Our Lord, inspired by his pilgrimages to the Holy Land. With his blood brother, De La Salle Brother Walgan Francis, he planned and led more than 100 pilgrimages, with over 4,000 pilgrims, to the Holy Land. He also led numerous other pilgrimages to Catholic shrines throughout Europe, as well as to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico. In 1989, Brother Dennis was invested as a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre in recognition of his work in making the Holy Land and its people better known and appreciated.Brother Dennis spent most of his life working in London and throughout England as a teacher, vocations promoter, speaker and writer. He also gave many talks to raise funds for the work of De La Salle Brother James Kimpton with some of the poorest people in South India. Brother Dennis’s great zeal and energy in whatever he was called upon to undertake sprang from his deep Faith and commitment to God, which were sustained by a life of faithful prayer, at the centre of which was daily Mass.Brother Dennis wished to share these poems as a further means of helping others to come to know and love Our Lord more deeply, which was the ultimate goal of his life. He went home to the Holy Land of Heaven on 19th February 2006, aged 94, in the 76th year of his Religious Profession. May he receive from Our Lord the fullness of His eternal peace, joy and love. |

Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: The Fuggerei is the world’s oldest social housing complex still in work. It is a walled enclave within the city of Augsburg, Bavaria. It takes it name from the Fugger family and was founded in 1516 by Jacob Fugger the Younger (known as “Jacob Fugger the Rich”) as a place where the needy citizens of Augsburg could be housed. By 1523, 52 houses had been built, and in the coming years the area expanded with various streets, small squares and a church. The gates were locked at night, so the Fuggerei was, in its own right, very similar to a small independent medieval town. It is still inhabited today, affording it the status of being the oldest social housing project in the world. Historic kitchen in Fuggerei museumThe rent was and is still one Rheinischer Gulden per year (equivalent to 0.88 euros), as well as three daily prayers for the current owners of the Fuggerei – the Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary, and the Nicene Creed. The conditions to live there remain the same as they were 480 years ago: one must have lived at least two years in Augsburg, be of the Catholic faith and have become indigent without debt. The five gates are still locked every day at 10 PM. Housing units in the area consist of 500-700 square foot apartments, but because each unit has its own street entrance it simulates living in a house. There is no shared accommodation; each family has its own apartment, which includes a kitchen, a parlour, a bedroom and a tiny spare room, altogether totaling about 60 square metres. Ground-floor |

Living Lent $10.72 Ideally the way we live Lent should be the way we live the whole year, but one way or another we often lapse here and there–not being so constant in our prayer time, forgetting about acts of self-denial, not keeping the other fast and abstinence days of the Christian year, neglecting the needs of our brothers and sisters, losing the vision of our true humanity, and so on. Keeping a good Lent may encourage us to continue living in such a manner all year. In writing this revised edition of Living Lent, author Marianne Dorman provides a helpful tool to help Catholic Christians become more aware of the importance of Scripture in their daily lives, while meditating on one aspect of the Christian faith with each day of Lent. It is essential to understand there should be no separation between the holy and the human as divinity and humanity are one through Christ. –Marianne Dorman |

Made From The Right Stuff $10.43 Early on, Madalene and Herbert S. Jordan realized they had a common focus in life which could easily be summarized as “Duty, Honor, Country and God.” Integrity was the hallmark characteristic of them both. When commitments were made, they were honored…without hesitation. With marriage, the commitments were in the wedding vows, never to be violated, and in religion, the commitment was in the baptismal rite which, again, was never to be violated. For Madalene Marie Driscoll, her commitment to God was made as a baby through the promises of her parents and God-parents. All through her life, she was devoted to the Catholic Church, its teachings and its obligations. She spent much time in prayer, and whenever possible spent time in adoration before the Holy Eucharist. At location after location, Army post after Army post, she sewed cassocks and surpluses for the altar boys. Indeed in most posts from the 1930′s on, her boys were altar servers. She was dedicated to reading scripture and religious books, attending novenas and prayed the rosary on basically a daily basis. She frequently went to daily Mass and was a dedicated parishioner in the chapels and churches wherever she lived. Priests treasured her ability to get things done. She always hoped that one of her sons would become a priest, but was pleased to have a nephew and brother who were priests in the Passionist Order, Father Godfrey Poage and Father Louis Driscoll. Herbert Spencer Jordan was raised as a Congregationalist, but following the marriage to Madalene he attended Catholic Mass with the family on special occasions. After their son Bert’s sudden death in the Korean War in September 1950, Herbert began studyingwith a Jesuit priest and in 1951 became a Roman Catholic. He embraced that commitment with total heart and soul, and became a stalwart convert, frequently reading religious books and a lot of religious history. In prayer life, they really became a pair as they had in marriage. |

Praying is a Waste of Time Because thereâs Nobody Listening!
Â
Definition of the word pray, by Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914)…â€To ask that the laws of the universe be annulled on behalf of a single petitioner, confessedly unworthy.â€
I am totally convinced that there is no god listening to prayers. I am now seventy four years old and to date I have seen absolutely no evidence of the existence of any divine being throughout my entire life. Consider this:
In 2006, Sharon, Prime Minister of Israel suffered a stroke. The whole of the country (as well as million supporters in the USA) prayed for his recovery….He deteriorated daily.
About the same time, in the United States, 13 minors were trapped underground. President Bush asked the whole country to pray for them…They came up in body bags.
In the same month, in England, a whale lost its way and ended up in the river Thames. Britishers were asked to pray for it…It died a few days later
About the same time, more than 400 Muslims visiting Mecca to pray to Allah were crushed to death!
May 2008, Pope Benedict prayed for the victims and their families after a cyclone hit Myanmar. I guess he prayed to the same god who caused the storm, killing up to 113,000 people and making over one million homeless. At the same time he asked that all countries send aid to Myanmar. If prayer really worked he could just have asked god to send manna from heaven!
You don’t think that the six million Jews, (God’s chosen people) and a few million other gypsies, retards and Poles murdered by the Nazis prayed? A lot of good that did for them!
Whenever an airplane crashes and only one or two people survive, you can be sure that they will say that they prayed and god saved them. Nobody ever mentions the hundreds that died. You don’t think that most of them prayed also?
The various Popes are revered by millions of Catholics as the nearest thing to a god. Were they protected and rewarded? …Not a chance!
Pope Johann Xll died at the age of 18, killed by his lover’s husband.
Pope Paul 1 died after only 33 days of being “divinely selected.â€
Here are the rewards given to Pope John Paul ll
On May 13th 1981 he was shot in the stomach and the hand,
0n June 20th 1981 he suffered an infection and was operated on.
On July 15th 1992 he was operated on for a colon tumor.
On November 11th 1993 he was hospitalized for a dislocated shoulder.
On April29th 1994 he was hospitalized for a broken leg.
On December 25th 1995 (Christmas day) he was bedridden with flu.
On March 13th 1996 he had to cancel an audience due to intestinal ailment.
On August 15th 1996 the same thing occurred.
On October 8th 1996 he underwent surgery to remove an inflamed appendix.
On February 1997 cancelled audience because of flu.
On June 15th 1999 could not travel to Poland because of flu.
